Jan Van Der Loo is a worthy representative of the Belgian surrealism that had in Paul Delvaux and René Magritte his most famous artists. Renaissance elements, big disturbing worlds and twisted figures, like tree roots pointing into dark or burning skies are typical in the powerful works of Jan Van Der Loo, usually framed within ruins of palaces, ancient porches, towers of Babel, mosques, arcades gardens and the immensity of the flat, rocky and
desert landscapes of Africa. All
this is
mixed with elements belonging to the sixties that Van Der
Loo recreates giving new and personal characteristics such as geometric
structure, nets, borders and chromatic graduations that recall opart
procedures whose greatest exponent is Victor Vasarely.
