Abstract Expressionist Paintings

With roots in European Fauvism and Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism developed in the heart of the biggest post-Second World War artist melting pot: New York. The movement’s major representatives, such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman, moved away from European painting traditions to create a novel art, and shared an interest in using abstraction to convey strong emotional and expressive content. The influence of the Abstract Expressionist movement did not take long to appear in Europe, giving rise to, in the mid-1950s, Spanish Informalism, where the most remarkable groups included the Dau al Set in Barcelona and El Paso in Madrid.

Gestural and passionate, or calmer and focused on the strength of colour, below you will find a list of works, updated periodically, of Abstract, Informalist and avant-garde artists, along with prices to suit all budgets.
