The Asturian painter Maruja Valdés Solís held her first exhibition in Gijón, in 1976. Her work shifted from a realistic to a Surrealist stage, the latter being most well-known and sought after, characterized by her lyricism and dreamlike figures. These works, featuring bright colours on light backgrounds, capture multiple faces that appear in the folds of the subject’s dresses. The Surrealist works by Maruja Valdés Solís are hung in several museums in Spain and the United States, as well as in private collections in Spain and Latin America.
