George Segal, one of the most important figurative "pop" sculptors of the 20th century, was not only an influence on the Catalan artist Francesc Anglès, but he was also a friend, in contact with even at Sala Gaudí. The white of the human sculptures made of plaster and paper bands, and their size, are just some of the commonalities between Segal and Anglès. With a large sculptural ensemble at the Dalí Museum in Figueres, and almost four decades of individual and collective exhibitions around the world, the irreverent sculptures by Francesc Anglès are to sculpture what "collage" is to painting. But pushing far beyond the impersonality and coldness of Pop Art, the sculptures by Francesc Anglès convey a real sense of atmosphere and a warmth.
